Hi Everybody!

It is with great excitement that I am able to announce that a Producer has been selected for Burn in the Forest 2011. The GVIAS Events Committee oversees the formation of BurningVan events, and provides support to the production team, board of directors and members through an ever increasing body of knowledge. The Events Committee collects applications for production team members, reviews the applications, conducts interviews, and begins the selection process. The Events Committee and Producer together finalize the selection of additional production team members. As our events have grown in the volume and complexity of participation, it has become more important to assign trust to a small group and allow them to look after the big picture. The tasks for the production team require careful consideration, countless hours, and a devotion to our community far beyond what words can describe. While the work load is tremendous, the satisfaction is indescribable. Though we have defined three roles for the production team, the vision for the future involves more than three people working closely together. Cooperative planning allows more free time, better use of individuals’ strengths, and increased support of our weaknesses. It will also provide opportunities to learn while doing, creating new knowledge and new levels of participation for our future.

And without further ado,

:::PRODUCER:::

Our Producer for Burn in the Forest 2011, July 8 -10 is Delyse Ledgard. Her involvement in Burning Man Vancouver include Producer for BitF 2010, as well as for Micropolis last October and assistant producer for BitF 2009. She has performed many different roles including gate, registration, and transportation to name a few, and contributed to the formation and success of the Lemuria theme camp. When asked for her vision re BitF 2010, here is part of her reply:

My vision is to continue to expand the diversity of activities and community experience that BitF offers participants. We have a growing family component to the membership as shown through Micropolis. I have witnessed first hand the benefit to kids as well as adults when families can participate. BitF offers a landscape that can hold big art installations, theme camp areas, fire performance… Diversity is key – diversity of performance, diversity of artistic expression, diversity of participant… in this vision of diversity of performance and participation, is through communication of this vision and goals, and encouraging known individuals and groups to bring their projects. Other than this, the participants vision of their contribution will be supported by the production team in providing the infrastructure.

:::VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR:::

We are pleased to announce that the Volunteer Coordinator have also been selected for BitF. Congratulation and thanks to Belva Stone. Belva is best known for her amazing fire performance choreography as well as her work with Disaster Area. She returned to Vancouver almost 4 years ago and has been gung ho ever since. Here’s some of what they shared with us:

It is an opportunity to help out in an area I feel passionate about.”

Her vision:

“To see an amazing event become even better by wrangling a large number of happy volunteers to assist in making BiTF happen.” “To assist the Production team in assuring there is adequate and efficient use of volunteers available to make light work for all.”
