The recipe for our Soup-er Site map

Our soup-er map is now available!!

You will see how this year’s site map is different than last, and it’s not just the brothy names!

Key objectives this year were to:

  • separate foot traffic as much as possible from roving cars and trucks
  • present the magic river as a backdrop to interactive art
  • support new friendships between us through a strategy to put art, hosting venues, and common areas toward the pedestrian side of pathways
  • encourage community building by putting camps together based on energy and engagement.

Vehicles transport us to the site, and then become clutter! This year’s site plan suggests that community spaces, art, and interactive zones be located at the front of pedestrian pathways, vehicle clutter be kept at the rear of camps with tents and RVs in the middle

We hope that many camps will place elements of pageantry on the pedestrian sides, such as banners, LED lights and other elements to engage other participant and create a festive temporary autonomous zone to play and attract one another.

All about each ingredient:

As you wander through the steaming pathways of our “Soup” themed festival, each place name embodies one of the Ten Principles of Burning Man

Minestrone Street reflects Radical Inclusion, inviting everyone and anyone to sample the hearty blend of culture, creativity, and community. Minestrone Street is a high energy portal between the bridge and Centre Camp through Bisque Boulevard to the Bouillon Bowl. Minestrone is a pedestrian path, closed to all but service vehicles and mobility needs.

Bisque Boulevard manifests Radical Self-expression, inviting participants to add their unique spices to the rich mix, creating a tapestry as diverse and creamy as bisque. Bisque is a pedestrian path, closed to all but service vehicles and mobility needs.

Bouillon Bowl celebrates Communal Effort, where each individual’s contributions intensify the broth’s flavor, demonstrating our collective potential. Bouillon Bowl will host Saturday night’s fire show. While having less energy than Minestrone Street or the Pho Forest, this bowl represents the layout of Burning Man with an inner esplanade to explore. The centre of Bisque Bowl is closed to all vehicles except for mobility needs and emergency.

Chowder Bowl champions Civic Responsibility, stewing together the values of respect, consideration, and responsibility to our shared community, much like the different components of a hearty chowder. This camp hosts a large number of the artists who created work this year so that they can build relationship together. The centre of Chowder is closed to all vehicles except for mobility needs and emergency.

Alphabet Bowl is family camp and the name is a nod towards Leaving No Trace, using the alphabet pasta letters to remind children (and adults!) of the importance of environmental stewardship. he centre of Alphabet is closed to all vehicles except for mobility needs and emergency

Pho Loop represents Participation, where everyone is encouraged to be involved, to experience, and interact, like the unique flavors in every bite of pho. Pho Loop is in the middle of big sound camps, filled with interactive art to explore. Pho Loop is closed to all vehicles except for pre-event and post-event needs.

Consome Close, with its clarified and simple broth, underscores Immediacy, encouraging festival-goers to be present, relishing in the experience as it unfolds. This road provides early event access to sound camps and supporting campsites with vehicles restricted during the event.

Potage Parkway symbolizes Decommodification, just as a potage is a humble soup crafted with pure, unprocessed ingredients, we too strive for an environment free from commercial interests, preserving the authentic interactions and relationships at the heart of our festival. This road provides early event access to sound camps and supporting campsites with vehicles restricted during the event.

Miso Way provides vehicle access around the perimeter of the site and to basic parking, with a turnaround for lost RVs. Miso Way embodies Radical Self-reliance, encouraging individuals to discover their inner umami.

Tomato Road reminds us about Gifting, where attendees share ingredients, ideas, and experiences, as tangy and refreshing as a ripe tomato. Tomato Road is primarily a road to exit the site at the end of the Festival.
